The Photo Institute – Sunset, originally uploaded by Verde O.

Along with our new classes about photographic lighting and portraits, we have a new sim and a new alliance. The Photo Institute is proud to announce a formal partnership with Insight Virtual College (IVC)! TPI has moved into the homestead sim called “The Photo Institute” east of the IVC campus.

We still have Kee’s robot and ships but the campus has been reimagined as a combination of modern and traditional structures with a beautiful garden.

Come check it out! SLURL

Introduction to Windlight starts tonight

September 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Windlight is a photographer’s dream to some and a huge challenge to others. If you would like to learn how to use windlight to your advantage as a photographer, then this is the class for you.

From the course catalog:

This class will introduce the student to The Windlight menus and controls and provide examples of how they can be applied to create an array of atmospheric effects in Second Life. Students will be asked to create a homework assignment which will be reviewed and critiqued during the second class.

Instructor: Kee Llewellyn
Class Time: Two (2) 1-hour sessions, Fridays, September 19 and 26, 7pm SLT

You can also get information about using windlight and sites where you can download windlight settings that other photographers (like Torley Linden and AM Radio) have created in TPI’s Library, just off the classroom.

See you tonight!

Fall Semester Starts TODAY!

September 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

There are still some seats available for “Essentials of Critique” offered tonight at 7 pm SLT. This is a required prerequisite for many of the more advanced SL photography classes so try take it as soon as you can.

G-101 Essentials of Critique – getting beyond “I like it”
Instructor: Kee Llewellyn
Class Time: 1 hour, Tuesday, September 9, 7pm SLT
Critique is one of the most important skills any artist will ever learn. The skills of observation, analysis and expression not only allow you to develop and express a useful opinion about other people’s work, they also give you invaluable tools for evaluating and improving your own work. The value to the artist of competent and trusted critique cannot be overstated. Class will include review of various works and a discussion of the ways in which they might be critiqued. Students are encouraged, but not required, to bring examples of their work to be reviewed and critiqued during this class. Please make sure any work submitted for review is full perms and given to the instructor prior to the start of class.
